MATHCOUNTS is a fun, challenging, and free program that promotes middle school mathematics achievement. In recent years, the Saint Joseph School Math Club has received top honors from MATHCOUNTS: the Gold level achievement award! We want to continue with that success. But we need some new mathletes to join the team. All students in the 6th, 7th and 8th grade who have an interest in math are encouraged to join!
What you can expect:
- Student mathletes solve problems both as a group and individually. Meetings are conducted in an informal classroom setting, led by parent coaches with backgrounds in mathematics. Students need only bring a pencil and a calculator.
- Club meetings are held on Thursdays after school from 3 p.m. to 4 p.m. The club meets from October through February during weeks when school is in session. Parents are responsible for transportation home after each club meeting.
- Based on interest, there will be an opportunity for SJS Math Club students to take the qualifying exam to compete in the MATHCOUNTS district competition. This competition is traditionally held at Penn State Harrisburg at the end of January.
